Dividing by One-digit Number with Base Ten Blocks

Division can be thought of as sharing the first number into the same number of equal groups as the second number. To divide 41 ÷ 3, share 41 into 3 equal groups. The 4 tens can be shared equally with 1 ten in each group and 1 ten left over. The leftover 10 cannot be shared equally, so regroup as 10 ones. There are 11 total ones and they can be shared equally with 3 ones in each group and 2 ones left over. The amount leftover is called the remainder. So 41 ÷ 3 = 13 remainder 2.
