Division with Remainders using Cuisenaire® Rods

Dividing one number by another, like 13 ÷ 5, is the same as finding how many times the second number goes into the first number. The number 5 goes into 13 two full times with some amount left over. The amount left over is 3, so 13 ÷ 5 equals 2 remainder 3. The amount left over has 3 parts out of the 5 parts needed to go another whole time, so 12 ÷ 5 also equals 2 and 3/5.
