Ratios and Proportions with Pattern Blocks

A ratio is a comparison of two numbers. Place five green triangles and one yellow hexagon. The area of the green triangles to the area of the yellow hexagon can be written as the ratio 5:6. Next, double the number of blocks to create the ratio 10:12. A proportion is an equation that shows that two ratios are equal. The ratios 5:6 and 10:12 form a proportion because their ratios are equivalent.
